In May 2008 RHIYC Armenia trained 25 young journalists in youth SRHR in an intensive three-day workshop. It combined field work in collecting S&RH-relevant data with sessions on data analysis and effective news-writing.
The workshop provided extensive review of a number of issues critical to accurate and balanced coverage of youth S&RH, such as the role of media in bringing up sensitive issues, motivating a reader, and the variety and relevance of sources, among others. To complete the workshop assignment in writing a story on a specific problem or area of youth SRHR the trainees conducted polls on the streets of Tsaghkadzor to interview local residents and tourists on their opinions and knowledge of SRHR and base the writing on true life experiences along with data from official surveys.
Approximately ten stories are expected to appear next week in a number of online and print editions, including http://www.ArmeniaNow.com and Sevan News, as well as in http://www.asj.patuhan.am and http://www.cjtam.org to be launched soon by the students of the Armenian School of Journalism in the Yerevan State University and the Caucasus Journalist Team NGO respectively. |
